Princeton University's Ben Dearborn Named December 5 Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Princeton University goalie Ben Dearborn (So., Palo Alto, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) recorded 18 saves in helping his team claim third place at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship hosted by the University of California-Berkeley to claim the December 5 Men's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
Princeton defeated the University of California-San Diego 9-7 in the tournament's third-place game to finish third in the four-team field and earn the school's second third-place finish since 2009.
Against the Tritons in the third place tilt, Dearborn turned aside seven shots as the Tigers rolled to a 9-7 victory.
In a 17-4 semifinal loss to eventual National Champion the University of Southern California, he made 11 saves in 24 minutes of work as the Tigers fell into the third place game.
The accolade marks the second time Dearborn was recognized by the league this year as he previously garnered the October 17 Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
