Walker Shockley of Brown University Named October 24 Northern Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Brown University goalie Walker Shockley (So., Diamond Bar, Calif./Damien) of Brown University led the Bears from inside the cage during a West Coast swing to earn the October 24 Men's Varsity Northern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
Following Northern Division victories over Iona College (13-6 W) and Connecticut College (16-5 W) in Connecticut on Wednesday, the Bears finished 2-3 at the Santa Clara Rodeo against No. 15 Santa Clara University (10-4 W), No. 18 California Baptist University (9-4 L), No. 18 United States Air Force Academy (12-10 W), No. 3 Stanford University (18-5 L) and No. 12 University of California-Davis (11-2 L) as Brown finished 4-3 on the week.
He led the defense with 13 saves, an ejection drawn and a steal in knocking off Santa Clara, before tallying eight saves, a steal and an assist versus Cal Baptist.
Shockley tacked on 11 saves against Air Force in a victory, and combined for 18 saves and a steal agianst Stanford and UC-Davis in the final two games of the weekend.
The award marks Brown's third Defensive Player of the Week nod this season as Shockley, who previously picked up the October 10 honor, joins James McNamara (So., Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) (September 19 Defensive Player of the Week).
