ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team won at Gannon, 14-11, as James Owen set a school record with 10 goals in the victory.
Owen scored four times in the first period, as the Lakers took a 5-4 lead after one. The Golden Knights answered with three goals in the second quarter, taking a 7-6 edge into the locker room.
Owen exploded again in the third frame, adding four more scores as Hurst (8-4, 7-0 CWPA) took control of the contest. A late Gannon rally fell short, creating the three-goal margin.
Raul Ariza, Danilo Svorcan and Adam Borgman each scored a goal in support of Owen's monstrous effort. Matt Cote recorded eight saves in net. It was the second time Mercyhurst has beaten Gannon this season.
