Chatham University Falls to No. 10 Washington & Jefferson College, 9-4, and Pops Pennsylvania State University-Behrend, 14-4, at CWPA D-III Central at East Tournament
UTICA, N.Y. -- Chatham University ended the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III East at Central Tournament on the campus of Utica College by falling to rival/No. 10-ranked Washington & Jefferson College, 9-4, before bouncing back to post a 14-4 win over Pennsylvania State University-Behrend. Chatham now sits at 3-10 on the season, 1-9 in CWPA play.
Against W&J, four different
players scored a goal for Chatham. Selina Breiner (Moon
Twp., Pa./Moon), Natty Burford (Temecula,
Calif./Temecula Valley), Lauren Burrows (North
Canton, Ohio/Glen Oaks) and Jade Lawson (Skippack,
Pa./Perkiomen Valley) each found the back of the net.
Washington & Jefferson capitalized off a strong first half in
which they scored seven goals. Chatham outscored W&J in the
second half, 3-2. Allison Bodine (Frederick,
Md./Urbana) recorded six blocks in net for CU.
Against PSU-Behrend, a dominating first half powered the Cougars
to their first conference win of the season to clinch the No. 8
seed for the upcoming CWPA Eastern Championship at Grove City
College next weekend.
After two quarters, the Cougars led 6-0, thanks to three first half goals by Burrows as she finished the contest with four goals. Breiner led Chatham with seven goals, including four in the fourth quarter. Lawson chipped in with three goals. Bodine stopped 13 Behrend shots.
