Utica College Drops Chatham University, 10-6, & Falls to No. 10 Washington & Jefferson College, 16-6, at CWPA Divsion III Central at East Tournament

UTICA, N.Y. -- Utica College downed Chatham University, 10-6, and fell to No. 10 Washington & Jefferson College, 16-6, at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Divsion III Central at East Tournament.

Against Chatham, sophomore Evelyn Kurzac led the Pioneers with three goals, while classmate Jennifer Persio found the net twice.

Utica had a strong first half, scoring six of their 10 goals in the first two quarters. Chatham would not go away, however, scoring two goals late in the fourth quarter to cut the Pioneers' lead to just four markers. But that would be as close as the Cougars would get as UC hung on until the final whistle blew.

Selina Breiner led the way for Chatham with three goals on the afternoon.

Later in the day against Washington & Jefferson, Utica fell by 10 goals to drop the Pioneers to 3-9 on the season.

Kurzac continued her strong play as she led the Pioneers with four goals. Senior Lisa Torii and junior Sarah Parker each added one goal apiece.

The Presidents were too much for Utica to handle as they jumped out to an 8-1 lead going into the second half. The Pioneers would manage to score five second half goals, but it wouldn't be enough as Washington & Jefferson poured it on with eight second half goals.

Margot Wummer led the way for the Presidents with four goals, while Catherine Villa and Sara Boldt each found the net three times.
