University of Maryland's Shelby Reyes Takes April 9 Western Division Defensive Player of the Week Laurels
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- University of Maryland goalie Shelby Reyes (Sr., Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prepatory) made eight saves as the No. 10-ranked Terrapins stopped No. 13 University of Michigan, 10-9, to help her squad claim the Western Division regular season crown and capture the April 9 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
Playing in arguably the biggest game in the history of the Maryland program, she stopped a potential breakaway on a steal in front of the net with 3:30 remaining on the clock and stopped a pair of point-blank shots with the score tied at nine-all in the fourth quarter to keep the Terrapins in the contest.
The honor marks the seventh nod as her division's Defensive Player of the Week as Reyes previously picked up the Southern Division award in 2011 on February 28, March 25, April 18 and May 2, while claiming the February 27 and March 26 Western Division honors.
