Order of Games on First Day of 2012 Women's CWPA Eastern Championship Revised
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Following a review for the amount of rest between contests on Day 1, the Collegiate Water Polo Association announces a revision in the order of games for the 2012 CWPA Eastern Championship at Brown University on Friday-Sunday, April 27-29.
Only games on Friday, April 27 are impacted by the adjustment as the 4th Seed vs. 13th Seed and 5th Seed vs. 12th Seed games flip to provide additional rest for the higher-placed No. 4 seed.
In addition, it was discovered that the Winner of Game 4 received 80 minutes less rest than the Winner of Game 5 in the previous edition of the schedule. To correct this issue, Games 8 and 9, featuring the No. 3 Seed vs. Winner Game 4 and No. 2 Seed vs. Winner Game 5 are switched to provide an equal amount of rest for the victors of both Games 4 and 5. This change does not impact the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds which receive first round byes until 6:20 and 7:40 p.m., respectively, although the No. 3 seed will not play 80 minutes earlier than previously announced by the league office.
Slated to be hosted at Brown's newly constructed Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, the 13-team championship featuring the host Bears, Princeton University, George Washington University, Bucknell University, Harvard University, Salem International University, Notre Dame College (Ohio), the University of Maryland, Gannon University, Hartwick College, Indiana University, Mercyhurst College and the University of Michigan will determine the league's champion and representative for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship on May 11-13 at San Diego State University.
It will mark the first major event in Brown's new 56-meter aquatics facility which is scheduled for completion in early 2012.
Due to the size of the field, the No. 1-to-3 Seeds receive first round byes as action will be comprised of nine games on Friday (April 27), eight on Saturday (April 28) and six on Sunday (April 29) for a total of 23 games over three-days.
The No. 1 and 2 seeds will be awarded to the Southern and Western Division champions, while the reminder of the 13 positions will be decided by a seeding committee in a head-to-head comparison of the remaining teams. The determination of the No. 1 seed between the two division champions will also be done by a seeding committee
Similar to past CWPA Eastern Championship tournaments, all games will be streamed through the league's sponsorship with Stretch Internet for fans unable to make it to Providence.
