Grove City College Slashes Notre Dame College, 8-3, & Falls to Gannon University, 10-6, at Grove City Invitational
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Division III No. 9 Grove City College went 1-1 in non-conference action at the James E. Longnecker Pool during the Grove City Invitational as the Wolverines opened the day with an 8-3 victory over visiting Notre Dame (Ohio). Grove City then dropped a 10-6 decision to Gannon University in the day's finale.
Three Wolverine players recorded multi-goal efforts against Notre Dame as senior Andrea Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas School) and freshman Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) both fired in three goals while freshman Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) scored twice.
Senior Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and sophomore Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) each assisted on two goals. Hulsebus, senior Amanda Brush (Charlton, N.Y./Schenectady Christian) and junior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) all had one assist each.
Johnston stopped 16 shots in goal to earn the win.
Grove City (10-8) led 3-2 after the first period against Gannon, but the Knights rebounded to take a 6-4 lead by halftime.
Hinkle and Johnson both scored twice for the Wolverines while Baur and Wilson each had one goal. Hinkle also assisted on two goals and Baur had one assist.
Hinkle paced the defense with five steals and Baur had three thefts. Wilson also had three steals and blocked two shots. Johnston recorded seven saves.
