Wheaton College Falls to Carthage College, 12-8, Tops Utica College, 16-5, on Day One of CWPA Division III East-vs.-West Tournament
WHEATON, Ill. -- Wheaton College split its first two games at home during the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III East-vs.-West Tournament as the Thunder were silenced 12-8 against Carthage College, but topped Utica College, 16-5.
In the day's first match versus Carthage, Wheaton led 6-3 after first two quarters. But the Lady Reds came on strong in the second half, scoring four in the third quarter and five in the fourth quarter to get the four-goal win. The Thunder goals came from Heather Crockett (3), Kathryn Sheehy (2), Linley Sullivan (2) and Jessica McGee (1).
Wheaton won its second match against Utica as the Thunder held a slim 6-4 lead at halftime and then scored seven in the final quarter to finish it off. Sheehy was the leading scorer with five goals, followed by Crockett (4), McGee (2), Hannah Hibbs (2), Sullivan (1), Morgan Sorenson (1) and Emily Bellfi (1) all getting on the scoresheet.
