2010 Men's Varsity Week 5 Polls Released; USC & Pomona-Pitzer Remain at No. 1 in the Nation
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Southern California and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges remain at No. 1 in the nation as the Trojans and Sagehens top the Week 5/October 6 Men's Varsity Top 20 and Division III Top 10 polls released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA).
In the CWPA Top 10 Poll, St. Francis College (N.Y.) held onto the No. 1 ranking in the conference for another week.
Voted on by a panel of coaches and administrators from around the country during the preseason and each week of the season based on the cumulative results of each team, the Varsity Top 20, Division III Top 10 and Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 polls are released on Wednesday during the season until the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
Men's Varsity Top 20
The University of Southern California and the University of California-Los Angeles held on at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, but five of the positions in the Top 10 changed hands in the Week 5/October 6 Men's Varsity Top 20 Poll.
Behind the Trojans and the Bruins, who met over the weekend in the SoCal Tournament title game, the Top 10 experienced radical changes as the University of California-Irvine climbed two places to No. 3, the University of California slipped one spot to No. 4, the University of California-Santa Barbara jumped one place to No. 5 and Stanford University dropped two spots to No. 6.
University of the Pacific and Long Beach State University held on at No. 7 and 8, respectively, while the University of California-San Diego rose four places to break into the Top 10 at No. 9. Loyola Marymount University rounds out the Top 10 for another week.
The final 10 places in the poll also saw dramatic changes. The University of California-Davis remains at No. 11, but is the only team to hold onto its ranking from the September 29 poll. Santa Clara University, Pepperdine University, St. Francis College (N.Y.) and California Baptist University account for No. 12-15, while Concordia University, Princeton University, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, the United States Naval Academy and Brown University rate at No. 16-20.

Men's Varsity Division III Top 10
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges picked up 100 points to
continue as a unanimous No. 1 selection in the Week 5/October 6
Men's Varsity Division III Top 10 poll.
The Sagehens, who replaced the University of Redlands in the standings as the No. 1 team two weeks ago, saw their lead dwindle to five points over the Bulldogs (100-to-95), while Whittier College stayed at No. 3.
Johns Hopkins University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges round out the Top Five, with Chapman University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Occidental College, California Lutheran University and the University of La Verne completing the Top 10.
Washington & Jefferson College finishes off the rankings as the Presidents received 11 points to miss out on cracking the Top 10 for another week.

Men's CWPA Top 10
St. Francis College (N.Y.) continues to roll along on top of the Collegiate Water Polo Assocaition (CWPA) as the Terriers retained their position as the No. 1 team in the Week 5/October 6 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Men's Varsity Top 10 poll.
Princeton University, the United States Naval Academy, Brown University and Johns Hopkins University rank No. 2-5, respectively. The Top Five experienced only one change as Navy jumped over Brown to take over at No. 3.
Fordham University, George Washington University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology rate at No. 6-to-8, while Bucknell University and Mercyhurst College complete the Top 10, with Queens College (N.Y.), Harvard University and Iona College receiving votes.
