Five to Join Brown University Women's Water Polo Class of 2015
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Head women's water polo coach Felix Mercado has announced the addition of five newcomers to the 2011-12 women's water polo team. Joining the women's squad are Evan Cranston, Liz Rosen, Becca Zak, Madison Pepper and Chloe Kempf.
"I'm really excited about this incoming class as they will add a lot of strength and depth to the women's roster," said Mercado. "I am looking forward to the start of the season and working with the team. I am expecting great things for the future of Brown water polo."
Evan Cranston
Position: Goalie
Hometown: Palo Alto, Calif.
High School: Castillejas
Height: 5'-11"
Evan Cranston was a four-year varsity goalkeeper for Castillejas and a two-time All-CCS selection. Earned Second Team All-County (Santa Clara), and was a two-time San Jose Mercury News selection. An All-American 16U 2009 Jr. Olympic honoree, Cranston was a 2010 Jr. National Training Team member and a Positive Coaching Alliance Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Winner, as well as a USA Water Polo All-Academic (2009-10 and 2010-11). Her high school squad reached both the CCS finals and the semi-finals twice, and were the 2009-10 CIF Academic Team Champions. As a member of the Pacific Zone Team (ODP) and Stanford club team she won various medals at the Junior Olympics, including a Gold Medal at the 2010 Regional Championships, a Bronze Medal at the 2009 Youth Championships, a Silver Medal at the 2008 Youth Championships and a Bronze Medal in the gold flight at the 2008 Junior Olympics.
Liz Rosen
Position: Attacker
Hometown: San Anselmo, Calif.
High School: St. Ignatius
Height: 5'-9"
Liz Rosen was a four-year varsity letter winner on her water polo team and a three-year varsity letter winner on the swim team. Rosen was a CCS First Team All-League selection from 2009-2011, a WCAL First Team All-League honoree in 2010-2011, and a WCAL Second Team All-League selection in 2009. Rosen earned 2010 NISCA All-America Honorable Mention honors, and is a candidate for 2011 All-American status as well. Rosen holds the school record for career goals scored and most steals, and led her team to its first ever CCS Championship game in school history (2010). The squad went to the semifinals in 2009 and 2011. Rosen was a member of the Pacific Zone ODP Team 2009 & 2010, and was the MVP of the 2009 JO Gold Division). Earned five All-America honors for swimming 200 medley relay (twice), 400 free relay, 200 free relay (twice). Holds four school records at SI; 200 free, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay; 200 free relay, and anchored relays from 2008-2010 which placed in the top 8 in CCS each year. She was also a sectional and junior National Swimming Qualifier. She was an All-Academic with Distinction for Water Polo (2009-10), a 2010 AP Scholar, a Life Member and a California Scholarship Federation honoree.
Becca Zak
Position: Center Defender
Hometown: Carlsbad, Calif.
High School: Carlsbad
Height: 5'-9"
Becca Zak was a two-year varsity water polo player and a two-year varsity swimmer at Carlsbad High School. Zak was a First Team All Avocado League in 2011 and a four-year Scholar Athlete Team selection. A JO Gold Bracket Champion, her squad was 2010 San Diego D1 CIF Runners-up, 2011 San Diego D1 CIF semi-finalists, and 2011 Avocado League champions.
Madison Pepper
Position: Center
Hometown: Baytown, Texas
High School: Sterling
Height: 6'-0"
Madison Pepper was a 2011 State MVP and Region MVP and a 2010-11 team captain. Pepper was a three-time All-State team and All-Region team selection, and was a 2008-2011 All-Academic. She led her squad to four TISCA State Championships and four district championships, and was on the 2010 Olymipic Development Program Training Team.
Chloe Kempf
Position: Utility
Hometown: Laguna Hills, Calif.
High School: J Serra High School
Height: 5'-10"
Chloe Kempf received J Serra High School's Most Improved Award after the 2008-09 season and the 2010-11 season. Kempf was also a scholar-athlete from 2008-2011.
