University of Maryland's Shelby Reyes Named May 2 Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Shelby Reyes (Jr., Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) of the University of Maryland made 35 saves in three games to lead the No. 19-ranked Terrapins to a third place finish at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championship and garner the May 2 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.

The honors marks her fourth nod as the Southern Division's Defensive Player of the Week as she previously picked up the award on February 28, March 25 and April 18.  In addition, she was named to the All-Southern Division First Team earlier this week.

In a 2-1 weekend for the Terrapins at the Eastern Championship hosted at Indiana University's Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center, she average nearly 12 saves per game.

Reyes opened the tournament with 11 stops in a 9-8 overtime win against archrival No. 20 Princeton University, before stopping 13 shots in an 11-6 semifinal round loss to No. 6-ranked the University of Michigan.

Facing No. 12 Hartwick College in the third place contest, she made 11 saves as the Terrapins claimed a 7-6 victory.
