Indiana University's Jakie Kohli Named April 18 Western Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Jakie Kohli (Jr., Burnaby, B.C., Canada/Moscrop Secondary) of No. 13 Indiana University picked up 17 steals to go along with nine goals, four assists, two field blocks and an earned exclusion during a 3-0 trip to the University of Maryland to claim the April 18 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
The award marks the second weekly honor of the season for Kohli as she previously claimed notice as the February 28 Western Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Facing Brown University (11-6 W), Harvard University (14-8 W) and George Washington University (13-8 W) of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division in College Park, Md., she factored in all three games to anchor the Hoosiers' defense.
Kohli picked up three goals and a team-high five steals against Brown, before tacking on four steals, two field blocks, three goals and a pair of assists versus Harvard.
Against George Washington, she used her dynamic length to stymy the Colonials on the perimeter with deflections and a career high eight steals that led to scoring chances on the offensive end. In addition, she recorded her third hat-trick in as many games, dished out two assists and earned an exclusion.
The team scoring leader with 54 goals, to go along with 27 assists, 75 steals, 18 field blocks and 26 earned exclusions, she has three or more steals in 12 games to date this season.
For her career, she now stands at 209 career steals to stand fifth on the Indiana all-time list.
