Washington & Jefferson College Tops Penn State-Behrend, 13-2
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women’s water polo team cruised to a 13-2 victory over Pennsylvania State University-Behrend in the opening game of the Washington & Jefferson Invitational at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.
W&J took a 8-1 halftime lead and never looked back. Seniors Katie Wieber (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and Caitlin Brown (Milford, Ohio/Milford) and junior Sarah Cull (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) all recorded hat tricks. Cull and Brown added an assist a piece.
Senior Kate Van Schaik (Arnold, Md./St. Mary’s) and freshman Margot Wummer (Havertown, Pa./Germantown Academy) had two goals each. Van Schaik also dished out two assists and recorded two steals, while Wummer had an assist and a pair of steals.
Sophomore McKenzie Graf (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made 11 stops in allowing a season-low two goals in the cage for W&J. She added two steals.
The Presidents (8-6) recorded a season-high 17 steals in the victory, led by freshman Catherine Villa (Poway, Calif./Poway) and Cull with four each. The Red & Black were 4-for-7 on man-up opportunities.
