Mercyhurst College Manages Notre Dame (Ohio), 16-7
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Mercyhurst College women's water polo team handles Notre Dame College with a 14-3 first half en route to 16-7 win over the Falcons.
The Lakers, who improved to 13-8 on the season, reeled off eight goals in the first quarter and six more in the second to mark their largest first-half advantage of the season. Following the break, head coach Curtis Robinette and his squad closed out the Lakers' scoring with two tallies in the third before the Falcons got the only goals of the fourth, scoring three times to make it a 16-7 game.
Freshman Rebecca Wright and senior Nicole Nelson led an offense that saw 12 players get on the stat sheet with four points apiece. Wright scored four goals while Nelson scored once and assisted on three others.
Senior Alyssa Katerberg and sophomore Trish Armstrong each recorded a hat trick, sophomore Lisett Calderon tallied a goal and two assists, and senior Molly Keleshian found the back of the net twice.
Senior Chrissy Becks and junior Laura Perez dished out two assists apiece, while senior Rachel Griepsma and freshman Kassandra Kruesi each added a goal. Junior Laura Hennessey and sophomore Bella Hersh rounded out the offense with single assists.
Three goalkeepers split time in cage, with junior Hope Rozelle earning the win with six saves, four steals and three goals against. Freshman Hannah Metzger posted two stops and two goals against in the first portion of the second half before Keleshian closed out the game with four saves and two goals surrendered.
