No. 7 University of Michigan Claws Bucknell & St. Francis at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan water polo team cruised past Bucknell University, 15-6, and St. Francis College (N.Y.), 19-8, in the first day of the Tiger Tournament at Princeton University's DeNunzio Pool.

Junior Tara Brigham (Baytown, Texas/Sterling) made a career-high 11 saves against St. Francis (N.Y.) and stopped a penalty shot off the bench against Bucknell. Sophomore Alex Adamson (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) made one stop in 27 minutes of action against the Bisons.

Senior Cara Reitz (Miami, Fla./Gulliver) and freshman Lauren Dudley (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) each tallied four-goal games on the day, with Dudley finding the back of the cage six times total. Junior Claire Ivry (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) notched four assists against the Terriers

After playing close for the first frame against Bucknell, Michigan pulled out to a 9-4 halftime lead. The Maize and Blue extended its lead to 13-6 after three periods. Brigham came in with five minutes remaining in the contest and immediately answered the bell on a five-meter penalty shot in the late goings to help the Wolverines move to 4-0 in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division play.

Michigan maintained a four- goal edge through the first two periods against St. Francis before unleashing a seven-goal assault in the third period, leading 17-6 after three periods to put the game out of hand. Senior Sarah Roberts (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor) had three goals and freshman Sophie Høegh (Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) led the defensive effort with three steals.
