Brown University Falls to No. 14 UC-Santa Barbara, 12-5

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The No. 14-nationally ranked University of California-Santa Barbara women's water polo team defeated defeated the Brown University Bears 12-5 at Campus Pool.  Freshman Kate Woods led the Bears attack with three goals, while rookie goalkeeper Sarah Shin tallied three goals in the cage for the Bears.

Defense was the key for the Gauchos this afternoon as the squad got off to a fast start taking a 3-1 lead after the first eight minute.  Santa Barbara then shut out Brown in the second quarter, 2-0, to head into halftime with a 5-1 lead.

The Bears got their offense rolling in the third quarter tallying three goals, but was unable to stop the Gauchos from putting in four of their own.  Santa Barbara went on to outscore Bruno 3-1 in the fourth to finish off the Bears, 12-5.

Besides Woods with three goals, Katharine Booher and Brittany Westerman each added a goal.
