Georgia Downs Southern Utah 10-3 to Claim 13th Place Spot at National Collegiate Club Championship

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Lawson Floyd (Sr., Houston, Texas) scored four times to earn Player of the Game honors and lead the University of Georgia to a 13th place finish at the National Collegiate Club Championship with a 10-3 victory over the host Thunderbirds of Southern Utah University.  Austin Stahley (Sr., Atherton, Ga,) added a pair of goals for the Bulldogs who joined Southern Utah in making their first appearances on the National stage.

Georgia ran out to a 4-0 lead with 1:09 left in the first period as Stahley (6:46, 1:09) and Floyd (5:09, 3:26) tallied pairs of markers.  Southern Utah cut into the lead before the end of the period as Greg Barnes (So., Cedar City, Utah) bobbed and weaved through the Bulldogs' defense for a quick shot into the cage witih 51 seconds showing on the clock.

Three goals in the second period by Andrew Withers (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.), Floyd and Josh Morgan (So., Suwanee, Ga.) at 4:00, 2:47 and 49 seconds, respectively, handed Georgia a 7-1 lead at intermission. 

In the third period, Floyd, Mark Hansen (Jr., Kennesaw, Ga.) and Graham Kellams (So., Suwanee, Ga.) cushioned the lead with three more tallies at 6:38, 2:18 and 34 seconds to provide a 10-1 scoring advantage through 21 minutes of play.

The Thunderbirds made themselves heard in the closing minutes of the contest as Lance Shearer (Fr., Cedar City, Utah) pushed in a man-up goal at 6:49 and Mike Ault (Sr., Cedar City, Utah) closed Southern Utah's first season by beating Georgia for a goal at 4:57 for the 10-3 final.

Jonah Hafen (Fr., Cedar City, Utah) finished the a game high eight saves for the Thunderbirds, while Georgia's Drew Duckett (So., Lockport, Ill.) registered five blocks for the Bulldogs.

Southern Utah, which became the first inaugural program to host the National Collegiate Club Championship, concludes the tournament in a tie for 15th place, as the 13th and 15 place games are not played out due to pool availability constraints in staging a 30-game championship over three days.
