No. 19 Columbia Dumps Illinois State 15-9 in 13th Place Game at 2010 Men's National Collegiate Club Championship

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Kai Golden (So., Kahalu'u, Hawaii) earned Player of the Game honors for recording four goals in leading No. 19 Columbia University to a 15-9 victory over Illinois State University in a 13th place game at the 2010 Men's National Collegiate Club Championship.
The New York Division champion Lions finish in a tie for 13th place in the tournament standings with the University of Georgia as the 13th and 15th positions in the 16-team field are not played out due to pool availability over the 30-game, three day tournament. Illinois State, which was making its first appearance at the National Collegiate Club Championship in the history of the program, finishes in a tie for 15th place with the host Thunderbirds of Southern Utah University.
Austin Oliver (Jr., Houston, Texas) and Will Reid (Gr., Greenwich, Conn.) added hat-tricks for Columbia, while Mike Tran (Jr., La Habra, Calif.) chipped in a pair of scores to lead the way for the Lions.
Columbia never trailed in the game opening up a 5-1 lead in the first period before carrying a 7-3 advantage into halftime on the way to a six goal victory.
The Illinios State Redbirds were led by Mitch Tucker (Sr., Palatine, Ill.) with a hat-trick. David Kuchta (Jr., Flossmoor, Ill.) and Matt Pfersforf (Jr., Mokena, Ill.) tacked on pairs of goals as Illinois State concludes the season with an 11-3 record following a perfect mark in Great Plains Division play.
In cage, Daniel Kirel (Jr., Miami, Fla.) and Tran combined for eight saves in helping the Lions claim the victory. Matt Temple (So., Highland Park, Ill.) recorded four blocked shots for the Redbirds.
