California Polytechnic & Michigan State Named Co-Men's Collegiate Club Teams of the Decade (2000-09)
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- California Polytechnic State University and Michigan State University combined to win seven of the last 10 Men's National Collegiate Club Championships as the Mustangs and Spartans share honors as the Co-Men's National Collegiate Club Teams of the Decade based on a vote by visitors to the Collegiate Water Polo Association website.
A four-time champion during the decade with titles in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2007, Cal Poly advanced to six National Collegiate Club Championship title games during the 00's knocking off Villanova University (2001), University of Southern California (2002), University of Arizona (2004) and Michigan State (2007) along the way, while falling to Michigan State (2008) and the University of Michigan (2003).
In addition, the Mustangs won eight-of-10 Pacific Coast Division titles with championships in 2000-04 and 2006-08 placing second (2005) and fifth (2009) in the only two years in which Cal Poly did not win its division.
MSU, which captured the 2000, 2006 and 2008 crowns, made five title game appearances defeating University of Washington (2000), Grand Valley State University (2006) and Cal Poly (2008) with losses to Grand Valley (2005) and Cal Poly (2007).
