University of Maryland to Host 2010 Women's Eastern Championship on April 30-May 2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Maryland will host the 2010 Women's Eastern Championship on April 30-May 2 at the university's Eppley Recreation Center. The site of the 2009 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship, Maryland will host the eight best programs from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) with a berth to the 2010 NCAA Championship on May 14-16 at San Diego State University.

The tournament will mark the first time Maryland will host the Eastern Championship as Harvard University (2009, 2003), University of Michigan (2008), Princeton University (2007, 2002, 2000), Brown University (2006, 2001), Indiana University (2005), Bucknell University (2004) previously hosted the women's varsity CWPA championship.

Opened on Jan. 31, 1998, the Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium at the University of Maryland is one of the premier swimming and water polo venues in the country. Part of the $40 million Eppley Recreation Center, the natatorium features one 50x25-yard pool with two movable bulkheads and an underwater sound system. The natatorium pool holds more than 1.5 million gallons of water. With seating for more than 1,000 spectators, the Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium has and will play host to such national and regional events as the 1999, 2002 and 2006 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Swimming & Divisng Championships, the YMCA Nationals in the summer of 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. The facility also hosted the 2003 USA Swimming Summer Long Course National Championships.
