Johns Hopkins' Alex Whittam Named November 23 Men's Varsity Southern Division Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Alex Whittam (Fr., Hillsborough, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) of Johns Hopkins University tallied five goals, including four in a 12-11 sudden death overtime victory against Fordham University, at the 2009 Men's Eastern Championship to lead the Blue Jays to a fourth place finish and earn the November 23 Men's Varsity Southern Division Rookie of the Week award.
In the opening round, he scored four times against Northern Division runner-up Fordham to advance the Blue Jays to the semifinals and guarantee the team's highest finish in program history at the Eastern Championship. After being held scoreless in a 12-7 loss to No. 12-nationally ranked the United States Naval Academy in the semis, he posted a goal to held his team in a 10-9 loss to Bucknell University in the third place game.
Hopkins, which finished fourth in the eight-team championship field, bettered its previous Eastern Championship best performance by two places.
