No. 19 Lindenwood Downs No. 7 Washington 7-4 to Advance to Fifth Place Game

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- No. 19 Lindenwood University received 10 saves and only three goals allowed from goalie Aaron Saule (Sr., Olathe, Kansas) to defeat No. 7 University of Washington 7-4 to advance to the fifth place game at the National Collegiate Club Championship at the University of Florida.

The Lions will meet No. 11 University of Texas at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, November 15 as Lindenwood, which is coming off three-straight Division III National Collegiate Club Championships, has a chance to finish among the Top Five programs in the large school championship.  Washington will take on No. 2 University of Utah in the seventh place game at 9:00 a.m.

Against the Huskies, Lindenwood opened the scoring with 3:17 left in the first period as Marco Tschlenok (Fr., Berlin, Germany) finished on a breakaway for a 1-0 lead. 

The margin expanded to 3-0 63-seconds into the second period as Mike Willar (Fr., Cape Town, South Africa) scored on a man-up chance at the 6:23 mark and Marwan Imam (So., Cairo, Egypt) tacked on an even-strength goal at 5:57. 

Washington cut into the lead as Joe Laird (Fr., La Jolla, Calif.) and Mike Moshofsky (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) found the back of the cage with a shots at the 3:07 and 45 seconds marks to move the Huskies within 3-2 at the end of the half.

The Lions put the game away in the third period with four straight goals to open the frame to take a 7-2 lead and coast to victory.

Imam led the Lions with a pair of goals, while Marko Cubronavic (Jr., Belgrade, Serbia), Sharn Appel (Jr,, Zimbabwe), Alisdair Campbell (Jr,, Dunfermine, Scotland), Willar and Tschlenok added solo scores.

For Washington, Rick Farmer (Jr., Winnetka, Ill.) tallied a pair of goals with single scores by Moshofsky and Laird.

In cage, Jonny Muir (Sr., San Jose, Calif.) made six saves for the Huskies.
