Gannon Men's Water Polo Team Finishes Sixth at CWPA Southern Division Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Gannon men's water polo team concluded its season Sunday afternoon with a 14-4 loss to NCAA Division I George Washington in the fifth-place match at the 2009 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Championship hosted by Bucknell University.

Gannon struggled to get its offense rolling after playing four matches in the span of 24 hours the last two days. George Washington opened a 3-0 lead after one quarter and went to halftime with a 5-1 lead. The Presidents increased their lead to 9-3 after three quarters, before posting a 5-1 edge in the final eight minutes.

John Krakowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) netted two of Gannon's four goals. Greg Nelson (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and Jamison Anton (North Wales, Pa./North Penn)Neal Zoellick (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) added one goal each recorded nine saves in goal.

Gannon concluded its season at 13-12 overall, marking its third consecutive winning season and sixth in the program's nine-year history. George Washington improved to 9-22.
