CWPA Ranks Among National Leaders in November 3 Men's Varsity Statistics

BALTIMORE, Md. -- 20 of the nation's Top 50 scorers and 15 of the country's Top 36 goalies are currently playing in the Collegiate Water Polo Association as the league ranks among the individual and team leaders in the November 3 Men's Varsity National Water Polo Statistics.

In the team statistics, 13 of the nation's 36 most potent scoring offenses are in the CWPA as Brown University (5th, 11.57 gpg), Washington & Jefferson College (7th, 11.38 gpg), Gannon University (9th, 11.15 gpg) and the United States Naval Academy (10th, 10.92 gpg) rank among the Top 10.  Johns Hopkins University (13th, 10.64 gpg), Bucknell University (15th, 10.44 gpg), Fordham University (13th, 10.43 gpg) and Mercyhurst College (17th, 10.25 gpg) also rank in the Top 20, while Princeton University (26th, 9.05 gpg), Harvard University (31st, 8.24 gpg), George Washington University (33rd, 7.57 gpg), Penn State University-Erie, the Behrend College (34th, 7.38 gpg) and Massashusetts Institute of Technology (36th, 7.11 gpg) round out the league's representation.

On defense, Navy (10th, 8.24 gpg) leads the league, while Princeton (15th, 9.15 gpg), Fordham (19th, 9.52 gpg), Johns Hopkins (21st, 9.68 gpg), Washington & Jefferson College (22nd, 9.77 gpg), MIT (23rd, 9.94 gpg), Bucknell (24th, 10.04 gpg), George Washington (27th, 10.32 gpg), Brown (28th, 10.38 gpg), Harvard (31st, 11.43 gpg), Gannon (33rd, 11.95 gpg) and Penn State Behrend (35th, 12.38 gpg) also rank in the National Top 35 in scoring defense.

Individually, the CWPA dominates the leading scorers list as Brown's Sveotzar Stefanovic (3rd, 71) and Gordon Hood (T-6th, 57), George Washington's John-Claude Wright (4th, 64), Fordham's Mikey Edwards (9th, 55) and JHU's Kyle Gertridge (10th, 54) rank among the Top 10 in goals per game. 

Mercyhurst's Alex Moggridge (T-11th, 53), George Washington's Cray Rogers (T-16th, 49), Fordham's Ali Arat (13th, 52), PSU-Behrend's Ali Khan (T-16th, 49), Princeton's Mark Zalewski (T-22nd, 45), Hopkins' Alex Whittam (T-22nd, 45), Gannon's Greg Naranjo (T-24th, 44) and Bucknell's Howie Kalter (T-24th, 44) also rank in the Top 25, while Bucknell's Richie Hyden (T-29th, 41), Navy's Stevie Ray (T-32nd, 40) and Kyle Wertz (T-43rd, 37), Hopkins' Peter Sauerhoff (T-36th, 40), Gannon's John Krakowski (T-36th, 39), MIT's Devin Lewis (T-43rd, 37) and W&J's Steve Hilty (T-47th, 36) conclude the league's high scorers in the rankings.

In cage, nearly half of the top goalies are on East Coast teams with Mercyhurst's Andy Sekulski (4th, 234 saves), Hopkins' Jeremy Selbst (5th, 232 saves), George Washington's Cameron Illes (7th, 226 saves), Brown's Kent Holland (10th, 184), Fordham's Christian Flessner (14th, 177 saves), Bucknell's Nick Donahue (T-17th, 166) and MIT's Columbus Leonard (19th, 164 saves) ranking in the Top 20.

Navy's Brett Rajchel (21st, 159 saves), Gannon's Neal Zoellick (22nd, 154 saves), Princeton's Mike Merlone (26th, 133 saves), W&J's John Todd (29th, 124 saves), PSU-Behrend's Jacob Bernstein (31st, 113 saves), Harvard's Nikhil Balaraman (34th, 97 saves) and Alexandre Popp (35th, 91 saves) and Princeton's Scott Hvidt (36th, 77 saves) also rank among the leaders.
