Navy Looks to Stop Johns Hopkins & George Washington on Final Weekend of Regular Season Play

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The No. 12-ranked Navy water polo team will close out its regular-season with its annual two-city roadtrip on Saturday at Johns Hopkins and George Washington. The 15-8 Mids will take on Johns Hopkins at 3:00 pm, then head down the Beltway to Washington, D.C., to face George Washington at 8:00 pm.

It will be the final regular-season games for the squad as the CWPA Southern Championships start next Friday (Nov. 6) in Lewisburg, Pa. at Bucknell University.

After starting the season 9-7, Navy is 6-1 in its last seven games and have won four games in a row, three of which have been against ranked opponents. Navy has not played since hosting four games (three league games) on Oct. 17-18. With a pair of wins this weekend.

Leading the way for Navy is a pair of sophomores in Stevie Ray and Kyle Wertz. Ray paces the squad with 50 points, ranking first with 36 goals and second on the team with 14 assists. Wertz has 41 points on 29 goals and 12 assists. Wertz went over the 100-point plateau in the win over Air Force on Oct. 17. In addition, senior Johnny Meiners (38 points) and Luke Baldwin (37 pooints) have each cracked 30 points this year. Kevin Bell (29 points), Conor Handley (23 points) and Jordan Carter (21 points) have all gone over 20 points.

Brett Rajchel has seen the majority of time in goal, registering a .507 save percentage, while making 140 saves this year. His 399 career saves rank seventh on the career list.

Navy is 2-0 this year against both Johns Hopkins and George Washington, winning the four games by a margin of 54-22. Navy is 35-1 all-time against Johns Hopkins and 37-2 against the Colonials.

The Mids will begin postseason play next weekend, looking for their 12th CWPA Southern Division title in only their 17th appearance, when tournament play begins next Friday.
