UCLA & California Rank No. 1 in October 29 Men's Collegiate Club Poll
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- For the first time in the recent history of the National Polls, two teams from the same division are tied atop the National Collegiate Club Poll as the Bruins of the University of California-Los Angeles and the Golden Bears of the University of California-Berkeley share the No. 1 spot in the October 29 Men's National Collegiate Club Top 20 Poll.
Cal, which has held the No. 1 ranking in the country since the October 1 poll, and UCLA have a chance to decide which team is the unquestioned No. 1 team this weekend as the Golden Bears and Bruins will meet at the Pacific Coast Division Championship at California Polytechnic State University with a berth to the National Collegiate Club Championship at the University of Florida at stake.
However, Cal and UCLA will also have to also get by No. 7 California State University-Chico, No. 8 University of California-Davis, No. 13 University of California-Irvine, No. 17 University of California-Santa Barbara and No. 19 Cal Poly as seven of the nation's Top 20 teams will vie for one berth in the national championship tournament.
Following Cal and UCLA in the Top Ten of the poll are Florida International University, Rocky Mountain Division champion University of Utah, Southwest Division champion University of Arizona, Big Ten Division champion Michigan State University, CSU-Chico, UC-Davis, Texas Division champion University of Texas and Big Ten Division runner-up University of Michigan.
Missouri Valley Division champion Lindenwood University and Rocky Mountain Division runner-up University of Colorado account for No. 11 and 12, respectively, while the trio of Southwest Division runner-up Arizona State University, Great Lakes Division champion University of Illinois-Chicago and UC-Irvine are tied for 13th in this week's poll.
Northwest Division champion University of Washington, UC-Santa Barbara, University of Florida, Cal Poly and Pennsylvania State University round out this week's selections by taking the No. 16-20 spots.
Overall, Cal was the only team in
the Top 20 to hold its ranking from the previous week as three new
teams jumped into the rankings this week and the remaining 16
holdovers either moved up or down in the poll.
