Johns Hopkins' Peter Sauerhoff Named Ocotber 26 Men's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins University's Peter Sauerhoff (Sr., St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School) recorded 18 goals (on 21 shots), six assists, six steals and one ejection drawn in four games to earn Most Valuable Player honors in leading the Blue Jays to their 12th Division III Eastern Championship. For his MVP performance, he has been named the October 26 Men's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week.
Overall, he was part of a Hopkins offense which outscored its opponents 88-13 during the course of the championship, including a 24-6 victory over host Washington & Jefferson College in the title game.
Versus Connecticut College (23-3 W) in the opening round, he posted four goals on five shots with a steal before tallying a four-goal performance with an assist, a steal and an ejection drawn against Pennsylvania State University-Erie, The Behrend College (23-2 W). In the nightcap of the first day of competition, he scored four goals on five shits with an assist and steal in an 18-2 victory against W&J.
In the title game, Sauerhoff earned his weekly and championship honors by scoring a match and career-high six goals to accompany four assists and three steals.
Overall, the Blue Jays earned their second-straight CWPA Division III Eastern title after electing not to compete in the 2007 tournament.
Hopkins has won five of the last six titles and recorded its 12th overall crown since the tournament started in 1991.
