Princeton Releases 2010 Women's Varsity Water Polo Schedule
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 2010 Princeton women's water polo schedule was recently released with the slate of announced games including seven tournaments in addition to Princeton's schedule of six CWPA Southern Division games. Following a second place mark in the Southern Division and a sixth place finish at the 2009 Eastern Championship, the Tigers will look to improve in 2010.
The Tigers open the season the weekend of Feb. 20-21 with the Princeton Invitational at home at DeNunzio Pool. Teams competing at the Invitational include Colorado State, Hartwick, Maryland and Michigan. A week later, the Tigers again play at home, this time hosting the ECAC Championships.
The Tigers go on the road the first weekend of March to compete at the Elite Eight Tournament at Indiana. The event will feature the eight schools that competed in the 2009 Eastern Championships and will be seeded as a tournament. Each team will play three games and the eight entrants are Princeton, Maryland, Hartwick, Brown, Michigan, Indiana, Bucknell and Harvard.
Princeton's Spring Break begins the following weekend and the Tigers weeklong trip to California begins with the SDSU Invitational the first weekend and concludes at the LMU Invitational. In between, Princeton plays at Concordia. The Tigers will also take on Sonoma State, Chapman, San Diego State and Loyola Marymount at the LMU event.
Once back from Spring Break, Princeton jumps into league play with its six league games spread over four weekends. The Tigers begin on March 27 at Bucknell. After an off week, Princeton hosts Maryland, George Washington and Bucknell the April 10-11 weekend. Princeton then closes the regular season at Maryland and George Washington the following weekend.
The four Southern teams will all again meet at the Southern Championships back in Princeton on April 24-25. The event will be spread over two days this year with the semifinals on Saturday and the consolation/championship games on Sunday. The top two Southern finishers will advance to the Eastern Championships the following weekend at Maryland. The Eastern champion will receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Championships, held this Spring at San Diego State.
