Washington & Jefferson Overpowers Penn State-Behrend and Salem International in CWPA Southern Division-West Action

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Junior Bill Krause (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) scored a team-high nine goals to help the Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team post back-to-back wins against Salem International University (14-3 W) and Penn State University-The Behrend College (24-7 W) on the afternoon of Saturday, October 17 at home in the Henry Memorial Natatorium.

The Presidents (6-7) jumped ahead early against Salem International in the opening match, leading 7-0 after one period.  W&J kept the momentum going over the next three periods, outscoring the Tigers 7-3 to earn the 11-point victory.

Senior goalie John Todd (Joppa, Md./Calvert Hall) collected seven saves in the contest, while senior Steve Hilty (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), sophomore Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and freshman Joey Weiland (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) all netted three goals for the Presidents.

In the nightcap, the Presidents opened up an early 4-2 lead in the first period with Krause netting three of the four goals.  W&J added five more goals in the second period to build a 9-2 halftime advantage and never looked back, outscoring the PSU-Behrend Lions 15-5 over the final two periods.

Krause ended the contest with seven goals, while Hilty and Rish each added five to help lift the Presidents to their sixth victory of the season.  Todd finished the second game with 10 saves.

The Presidents will return to action next weekend (10/24-10/25) by hosting the Division III Eastern Championship versus Johns Hopkins University, Penn State Behrend and Connecticut College in the Henry Memorial Natatorium.
