Utah, California & FIU Tie at No. 1 in October 8 Men's Collegiate Club Poll
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Folk/rockband Three Dog Night was wrong. One is not the loneliest number, or at least not in the October 8 Men's National Collegiate Club Top 20 Poll.
For what is believed to be the first time in the recent history of collegiate club competition, three teams now stand at No. 1 as University of Utah, University of California and Florida International University each received 91 points in the October 8 Poll.
Overall, each program received at least one first place vote from the collegiate club pollsters around the country as Utah and FIU, which ranked second and third last week, join California in a three-way tie for bragging rights as the best men's collegiate club program in the nation.
University of California-Los Angeles moved past University of Arizona to take over the No. 4 ranking this week, while University of Michigan surpassed Arizona State University for the No. 6 spot.
University of California-Davis was the biggest mover of the previously ranked teams this week as the Aggies rose eight places to No. 8 this week, while University of Colorado jumped two spots to No. 9. Michigan State University and Lindenwood University slipped back to No. 10 and 11, respectively.
University of California-Irvine went from unranked to No. 12 this week on the heels of a 4-0 mark over the weekend in Pacific Coast Division action to force California State University-Chico back to No. 13 and California Polytechnic State University to No. 14.
Pennsylvania State University, University of Oregon, Grand Valley State University, Texas A&M University, University of Texas and Villanova University round out the Top 20, while University of Pennsylvania and Yale University both fell a point short of tying Villanova and breaking into the National Rankings.
