Maryland Alum Blaise Stanicic to Play on Croatian National Team
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Former University of Maryland Terrapin Blaise Stanicic will continue her water polo career in Europe.
She is going overseas to play for Mladost, a Croatian water polo club from Zagreb, which was first established in 1946 as a part of the Mladost Sports society.
The team will be competing in both the Croatian National Championship and the Croatian Cup, which is a single-elimination format. The team has also entered the LEN trophy, a European club tournament, which should begin their qualifying rounds later this month.
Stanicic, who ended her Maryland career in the spring, will also be a member of the Croatian National team who will be practicing and competing for a shot at the European Championship next year, which will be played in Zagreb. The European Championship is held bi-annually.
A two-time All-America selection at Maryland and the daughter of United States Naval Academy men's assistant coach Mladen Stanicic, she recorded a team-best 35 assists last season and was second in points (63).
