University of California Goes to No. 1 in October 1 Men's Collegiate Club Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of California-Berkeley received 94 votes this week to take over as the No. 1 team in the October 1 Men's Collegiate Club National Top 20 Poll after being No. 16 last week.

The ranking comes in the wake of a unique situation at the University of California-Davis Fall Tournament over the weekend. Cal's climb comes in the wake of an 8-4 loss to the University of Utah at the UC-Davis Invitational title game over the weekend.  Utah, which fell 8-7 to the University of Colorado in Rocky Mountain Division play last week and dropped a 10-8 game to the University of Arizona over the weekend at UC-Davis, moved up 12 places to No. 2 this week.

Overall, only two teams held onto their rankings from the September 24 poll as Florida International University and Lindenwood University maintained their positions at No. 3 and 10, respectively.

In other rankings inside the Top 10, the University of Utah climbed 12 places to No. 2 to finish three points in front of FIU, while the University of Arizona jumped up to No. 4 after ranking sixth last week.

University of California-Los Angeles, Arizona State University and University of Michigan slipped to No. 5-7, while Michigan State University climbed one place to No. 8.

California Polytechnic State University and Lindenwood round out the Top 10.

University of Colorado, California State University-Chico, Pennsylvania State University, Villanova University and University of Oregon account for No. 11-15, while Grand Valley State University, University of California-Davis, University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, University of Illinois rank No. 16-20.
