Mercyhurst Stops Washington & Jefferson and Salem International in CWPA Southern Division Action
SALEM, W.Va. -- The Mercyhurst College men's
water polo team extended its winning streak to seven games Saturday
afternoon, as the Lakers captured a pair of road wins over
Collegiate Water Polo Association foes Washington & Jefferson
and Salem International. The Lakers (8-2, 5-0 CWPA) downed the
Presidents 7-6 in the early game before doubling up Salem by a
score of 8-4 in the night cap.
Junior Alex Moggridge and freshman Ian
Tasman led the offense in the game against W & J,
combining for seven points. Moggridge scored two goals and added
two assists while Tasman put away two scores and dished out a
helper. Both players also contributed on defense with two steals
apiece. Freshmen Colin Albue, Luis
Solis and Adam Borgman gave the offense a
hand with a goal apiece.
In the game against the Tigers, Mercyhurst did all of its damage in
the first quarter, building an 8-1 advantage. Seven different
players got in on the scoring action, with Albue, Solis, freshman
William Page and sophomore Gui
Alves all finding the back of the cage. Borgman expanded
his Saturday goal total to three with a pair of markers.
Junior Andy Sekulski combined for 38 saves in the
two games. He stopped 24 against W & J before registering 14
against the Tigers. He now stands at 8-2 on the season.
