Michigan State Ranks No. 1 in 2009 Men's Collegiate Club Preseason Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Michigan State University will begin the 2009 men's collegiate club season in a non-conference (Collegiate Water Polo Association), but still the No. 1 team in the country as the Spartans garnered 96 points to edge out California Polytechnic State University and Arizona State University for the top spot in the 2009 Men's Collegiate Club Preseason Poll.

Cal Poly, which fell to MSU 15-13 in last year's National Collegiate Club Championship game at Ohio University, and Arizona State, which dropped an 8-3 game to Cal Poly in the semifinals of last year's tournament on the way to finishing third in the nation, will enter the 2009 season tied for second in the preseason poll as both squads garnered 94 points.

University of Florida, University of California-Los Angeles, Grand Valley State University, University of Oregon, University of Arizona, Florida International University and Texas A&M University round out the Top 10 in the preseason balloting of coaches.

University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, University of California-Berkeley, University of Utah and Lindenwood University account for No. 11-15, while Pennsylvania State University, Miami University (Ohio), Yale University, California State University-Chico and University of Texas round out the Top 20.
