Greg Jones Named Water Polo Coach at Salem International University

SALEM, W. Va. --  Salem International University (SIU) announces the hiring of Greg Jones to lead the Men's and Women's Water Polo teams.

A successful coach and player at Ohio University from 2003-08, he earned three All-Conference  awards (Great Lakes Division - 2007 Second Team, Ohio Valley Division - 2004 Second Team, 2005 First Team) and was named a 2006 National Collegiate Club All-America Honorable Mention selection.

While at Ohio University he helped the club team compete in the Ohio Valley Division and Great Lakes Division with a best finish of second place in 2005 just falling short of qualifying for the National Championship with a 4-3 loss to Miami University (Ohio).

He has played water polo for 12 years, for teams including River City Water Polo (Cincinnati, Ohio), Gannon University, Ohio University and the Ohio Squirrels Water Polo teams.

"We are excited that a young enthusiastic coach like Greg is joining our staff,  I look forward to his success in rebuilding our water polo teams,"  remarked SIU Athletic Director Keith Bullion.

Jones earned his bachelors in Exercise Physiology and Masters in Coaching Education while at Ohio University.  His thesis was entitled The Disparities of Division I, II, and III Collegiate Varsity Water Polo teams throughout the United States of America where he surveyed all Division I, II and III varsity coaches and analyzed reasons of their performances.

"I believe there is a lot of opportunity for success in the future here at Salem International University," he said on the appointment.

Jones will also serve as the University's Aquatics Director. He worked as a graduate assistant at Ohio University's fitness department, where he supervised many trainers and fitness instructors. Jones also served as the Ohio University Swimming and Diving intern where he coordinated all swim meets.

Jones comes to SIU from Lifetime Fitness in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he worked with a variety of athletes.  He served as a personal trainer, endurance coach and as a metabolic specialist while working at Lifetime Fitness.
