Massachusetts Institute of Technology Releases 2009 Men's Schedule
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Massachusetts Institute of Technology will open the season on September 5-6 at home in the MIT Invitational with hopes of concluding the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) schedule in its home pool on November 20-22 at the Eastern Championship as the Engineers released their tentative 2009 schedule.
Following games against University of the Pacific, St. Francis College, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and University of Redlands at the MIT Invitational, the Engineers will travel south to the Princeton University Invitational on September 11-12 before going across Cambridge to Harvard University for a September 17 night game versus the Crimson to open CWPA Northern Division play.
On September 18-20, MIT will compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship at Princeton before returning home to host perennial rival Brown University on September 24 in a Northern Division mid-week game.
MIT will next take on Queens College in Flushing, New York on September 26 before returning home to Massachusetts for Northern Division games against Iona College (October 10) and Fordham University (October 17).
October 18 brings a non-division game against Mercyhurst College of the CWPA Southern Division and a Northern Division showdown at Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut.
The Engineers will wrap-up the regular season 12 days later as MIT will travel to the campus of Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts for another Northern Division contest against Brown University.
For MIT, the postseason road will begin and potentially continue in Cambridge as the Engineers will travel a few miles to the campus of Harvard University for the Northern Division Championship tournament on November 7-8.
The postseason will continue on November 20-22 in Cambridge as MIT will host the 2009 Eastern Championship with the top four teams from both the Northern and Southern Divisions meeting to decide which squad earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship set for December 5-6 at Princeton University.
This year will mark the first time in the recorded history of the league that Massachusetts Institute of Technology will host the Men's Eastern Championship.
