2009 Bucknell University Men's Schedule

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell University Department of Athletics has released the Bison 2009 men's water polo schedule. Bucknell, which finished third in the Southern Division and fifth at the Eastern Championship last year, will open the new season on September 5-6 at the Navy Open with a goal of joining the 2009 NCAA Championship field at Princeton University on December 5-6.

Led by head coach John Abdou, the Bison will remain on the road following the Navy Open competing at the Princeton Invitational (September 12-13) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship (September 18-20) both at Princeton University.

The Bison will return home to open the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division schedule with a string of home games as Bucknell will face Johns Hopkins Univeristy (September 25), George Washington University (September 26), Princeton University (September 26) and the United States Naval Academy (October 3) in Lewisburg.

Bucknell will return to the road on October 4 travelling to Princeton to face the host Tigers and non-division opponent Queens College, before moving down I-95 to Washington, D.C. and a scheduled division contest versus George Washington on October 8.

Following a trip to the SoCal Tournament in Irvine, California (October 10-11), Bucknell will wrap-up the regular season slate at Johns Hopkins (October 16) and Navy (October 17) before hosting Penn State University-Behrend and St. Francis College on November 1.

The Bison will remain in Lewisburg and hold home-pool advantage for the 2009 Southern Division Championship as Bucknell will host the tourney on November 6-8 in the Kenneth G. Langone Athletics & Recreation Center.

If Bucknell can finish among the top four teams in the division, the Bison will have a chance to improve on their third place showing at the 2008 Eastern Championship as the team will advance to the 2009 Eastern Championship set for November 20-22 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Should the Bison capture the Eastern Championship for the program's first men's championship since 1980, the team will return to Princeton on December 5-6 for the 2009 NCAA Championship.
