2010 Fordham University Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Fordham University Rams will seek to advance to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championship for the second consecutive year as the institution released its 2010 men's water polo schedule of games.
Fordham, which finished fifth at the 2009 CWPA Eastern Championship in the program's first appearance at Easterns since the 1987 season, will waste no time in jumping into the fray during the 2010 campaign.
Starting on September 4-5 at the Navy Open hosted by the United States Naval Academy, the Rams will face their fellow "Elite of the East" on a consistent basis.
One week later, Fordham will trek from the Bronx to Princeton to compete in the Princeton Invitational on September 11-12 before leaving the only mainland borough for a midweek visit to Queens College (N.Y.) to open up the Rams' slate of CWPA Northern Division games on September 15.
On September 17-19, the Rams will compete at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship hosted by Harvard University. Fordham earned the No. 6 seed and could face No. 1 seed Bucknell University, No. 2 Princeton, No. 3 St. Francis College (N.Y.), No. 4 Johns Hopkins University, No. 5 Brown University, No. 7 Massachusetts Institute of Technology, No. 8 Iona College, No. 9 George Washington University, No. 10 Harvard University, No. 11 Mercyhurst College and/or No. 12 Washington & Jefferson College.
The Rams will return to Cambridge one week later for league games at Harvard and MIT on September 25 before returning home to the Bronx for rumbles with Brown and Connecticut College on October 3.
Four days later it is off to the Golden State of California for a non-conference game against California Baptist University (October 7) and two days of competition at the Claremont Convergence hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on October 8-9.
The regular season will wind down over the next three weeks with a league game at St. Francis (October 13) before a slew of home contests versus CWPA Southern foes Mercyhurst College and Gannon University (October 24) and a Northern Division game against Iona College (October 27) wrap-up the campaign for postseason seeding.
Fordham will hit the road for the remainder of dates as the Rams and the rest of the division will travel to MIT for the Northern Division Championship on November 5-7.
If the team can finish among the top four teams in the North, the squad will advance to the newly redubbed CWPA Eastern Championship on November 19-21 in Lewisburg, Pa. on the campus of Bucknell.
Fordham, and the rest of the eight-team field, will battle for the league's title and a berth to the NCAA Championship to be held on December 4-5 at the University of California.
