Armstrong & Knox Continue to Star as US & Australia Pick Up Wins at FINA World League Super Final
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Team USA goalie Betsey Armstrong made six saves to lead the Americans to a 12-9 victory over Russia, while Bronwen Knox of Australia scored once in a 7-5 victory by the Aussies over Greece on Day 3 of the 2010 FINA World League Super Final in La Jolla, Calif.
A Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Hall of Fame inductee and a former University of Michigan Wolverine, Armstrong's performance helped the USA advance to a quarterfinal match-up against Canada at 7:00 p.m. PT on Thursday, July 1.
A former Hartwick College Hawk, Knox scored with 7:27 left in the second period to tie the game at 2-2 against Greece on the way to a two-goal victory.
The goal raises Knox's output in the tournament following a 12-8 victory over the Russian National Team and a 14-13 shootout loss to the Americans, to six goals.
Knox and the Aussies will continue the tournament with a quarterfinal match-up against the Netherlands at 4:00 p.m. on July 1.
