Michigan's Cara Reitz Named May 17 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Cara Reitz (Jr., Miami, Fla./Gulliver) of the University of Michigan posted three goals, six steals, a field block and two ejections-drawn to lead the Wolverines to a sixth place finish at the NCAA Championship hosted by San Diego State University and earn the May 17 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award.

Against the University of California in the opening round, she contributed a steal and a field block as the Wolverines fell to the Golden Bears 12-8.  She added two goals, an assist, four steals and a kickout-drawn in an 11-3 victory over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) champion and Division III No. 1-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the consolation semifinals.  In the tournament's fifth place game against No. 1-nationally ranked the University of California-Los Angeles, she notched a goal, a steal and a kickout-drawn as the Wolverines were edged by the Bruins 9-6.

She finished the season with 39 goals and 17 assists in 41 games to help Michigan earn a pair of titles (Western Division, Eastern Championship) and a 33-8 mark, establishing a new program record for winning percentage (.805) and losses (8).

For her career, Reitz has 99 goals and 51 assists for 150 points in 120 games, an average of 1.25 points per game.
