Grove City's Amanda Johnston Named May 10 Women's Varsity Defensive Player & Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Grove City College goalie Amanda Johnston (Fr., San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) made 51 saves over five games, including a tournament high 15 stops against Carthage College in the third place game, to help the Wolverines claim fourth place at the Collegiate III National Championship and earn the May 10 Women's Varsity Division III Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week awards.

The awards mark the fifth and sixth time Johnston has been recognized for her play this season as she previously garnered the March 8, April 12 and April 26 Rookie of the Week and the April 15 Defensive Player of the Week awards.

She opened the tournament with 11 saves in a victory over Wheaton College (10-4 W) before adding seven saves versus Occidental College (11-3 L) and nine stops versus Carthage (8-7 L OT) to conclude Day 1 competition at the championship on Friday, May 7.  On the second day of play, she tacked on nine saves versus California Lutheran University (11-9 L) before wrapping up the weekend with a tournament high 15-stops in an 10-8 loss to Carthage in the third place game to finish fourth in the five team field.
