Princeton's Phoebe Champion Named May 3 Women's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Princeton University's Phoebe Champion (Sr., Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) posted six goals to lead the Tigers to a third place finish at the 2010 Eastern Championship at the University of Maryland and earn the May 3 Women's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week award.

The team-leader in goals with 57 on the season, she netted a single marker in a 10-8 victory over No. 19-ranked and Southern Division champion Bucknell University in the opening round, before contributing a hat-trick in a 12-8 loss to No. 7-ranked and Western Division champion the University of Michigan.  In the third place contest versus No. 11-ranked and Northern Division champion Hartwick College, she tacked on two goals to her tournament total in leading the Tigers to an 11-7 upset of the Hawks.

For her play, she was recognized with All-Eastern Championship Tournament second team recognition.  It marked her third All-East nod as she previously garnered first team accolades in 2008 and 2009.

The 2009 and 2010 Southern Division Most Valuable Player, the Player of the Week nod marks the second of Champion's career at Princeton after earning honors as the April 7, 2008 Southern Division Player of the Week.
