Maryland's Shelby Reyes Named May 3 Women's Varsity Southern Division Co-Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- University of Maryland goalie Shelby Reyes (So., Miami, Fla./Gulliver Preparatory) made 29 saves to lead the Terrapins to a seventh place finish at the 2010 Eastern Championship and earn a share of the May 3 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.

She posted 14 saves in a 13-12 loss in overtime to No. 11-ranked and Northern Division champion Hartwick College in the opening round before adding eight stops in an 8-5 loss to Northern Division runner-up Brown University in the second round.  In the seventh place game against Northern Division third-place finisher Harvard University, she contributed seven saves for the Terrapins.

The award marks the first time Reyes has been recognized by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) league office with a weekly award and the first time a Terrapin has earned the Defensive Player of the Week award.
