Michigan's Alison Mantel Named April 26 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- No. 7-ranked University of Michigan driver Alison Mantel (Jr., Miami, Fla./Gulliver) contributed three assists, two kick-outs drawn and three goals at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division Championship Tournament to earn the April 26 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week award.

Playing at home in Canham Natatorium, she posted a goal and an assist against Gannon University in a 17-3 semifinal win before contributing two goals with an assist on the game-winning goal, two steals and two kick-outs drawn in a 5-3 victory over Indiana to clinch the program's ninth consecutive Western Division title.

The victory in the Western Division guaranteed the top spot in the Eastern field for the Wolverines as Michigan is the top-seeded team for the CWPA Eastern Championship as it hopes to defend back-to-back titles this weekend (April 30-May 2) at Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, Md. The Wolverines will take on No. 8 seed Harvard University at 11:30 a.m. to kick off the weekend on Friday (April 30). No. 4 seed Bucknell University and No. 5 seed Princeton University will battle on the same side of the bracket with the winners of both games meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday (May 1) and the losers going into the consolation bracket at 1:30 p.m. No. 2 seed Hartwick College, No. 3 seed Indiana University, No. 6 seed Brown University and No. 7 seed Maryland make up the other side of the bracket, vying for a chance at the championship game on Sunday (May 2) at 2:30 p.m. The tournament champion earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship (May 14-16) at San Diego State University in San Diego, Calif.
