Indiana's Kelsey Campbell Named April 26 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Indiana Unviersity's Kelsey Campbell (Jr., Maple Ridge, B.C./Maple Ridge Secondary) tallied three goals and nine steals in a 1-1 weekend at the Western Division Championship to earn the April 26 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
She helped lead the No. 15-ranked Hoosiers to an 11-1 semifinal win over Mercyhurst College on Saturday as she made a habit of getting into the passing lanes and making things difficult for the Lakers' offense. She finished the semifinal with eight steals, doubling her previous career-high of four. In addition, she was one steal shy of tying the school record of nine set by four different Hoosiers.
The last Hoosier player to record eight steals was Deb Simone during a 7-3 win at the University of Michigan in 2000
Campbell also notched two goals in the win against Mercyhurst as Indiana earned an automatic berth in the 2010 Eastern Championship at the University of Maryland and advanced to the Western Division title game versus No. 7-ranked the University of Michigan.
Against the Wolverines in a 5-3 loss, she notched a steal and a goal, to go along with two earned kick-outs.
