Bucknell's Kandis Canonica Named April 26 Women's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Bucknell University's Kandis Canonica (Jr., Burlingame, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) picked up her third Southern Division Player of the Week award as the junior tallied six goals, three ejections drawn and an assist in leading the Bison to the 2010 Southern Division title to grab the April 26 Southern Division Player of the Week accolade.
The team leader in scoring at the championship hosted by Princeton University, she rifled home four goals and chipped in two ejections drawn in a 10-2 victory over George Washington University. She concluded the championship with two goals, an assist and an ejection drawn in an 11-9 victory over the host and No. 19-ranked Tigers to give Bucknell its first Southern Division crown in program history.
On the year, she has a team high 46 assists and 89 points, including 43 goals, and now ranks third on the career-scoring list at the university with 324 points.
Overall, the award marks Canonica's third Player of the Week nod as she previously garnered the honor on April 19 and February 15.
Bucknell will continue the season this weekend at the Eastern Championship at the University of Maryland. The Bison were awarded the fourth seed in the eight-team field and will take on Princeton in a rematch of the division title game 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30 in first round action. Following second round competition on Saturday, May 1, the tournament will conclude on Sunday, May 2 with the seventh, fifth, third and championship games.
