Bucknell's Alison Carter Named April 26 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Bucknell University goalie Alison Carter (Sr., Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor) made 23 saves with 11 goals allowed, four steals and an assist to earn the April 26 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award for anchoring the Bison to the program's first division title.
She recorded nine saves with two goals allowed, a steal and an assist as the Bison defeated George Washington University 10-2 in the first round of the Southern Division Championship hosted by Princeton University on Saturday-Sunday, April 24-25 to reach the title game. Versus the host and No. 19-nationally ranked Tigers in the title tilt, she turned aside 14 shots, allowed nine goals and grabbed three steals as Bucknell captured its first Southern Division crown with an 11-9 victory.
Overall, her 23 saves last week pushed Carter's season total to 227, 17 shy of a career high. Further, she is now 13 saves shy of becoming only the third Bison netminder to post 700 career stops.
The award marks her fourth Defensive Player of the Week nod this season as Carter previously picked up the April 19, March 15 and February 15 accolades.
Bucknell will continue the season this weekend at the Eastern Championship at the University of Maryland. The Bison were awarded the fourth seed in the eight-team field and will take on Princeton in a rematch of the division title game 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30 in first round action. Following second round competition on Saturday, May 1, the tournament will conclude on Sunday, May 2 with the seventh, fifth, third and championship games.
