2010 Eastern Championship Field Set; No. 7 Michigan Earns No. 1 Seed

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The 2010 Eastern Championship field is now set as the seeding committee has announced the eight teams which will battle for the Collegiate Water Polo Association's varsity championship at the University of Maryland's Eppley Recreation Center on April 30-May 2.  The victor of the tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship at San Diego State University.

The tournament will begin on April 30 as two-time defending Eastern Champion, Western Division Champion and No. 7-nationally ranked the University of Michigan will seek its third Eastern title as the No. 1 seed and will meet No. 8 seed and Northern Division third-place finisher Harvard University at 11:30 a.m. 

Game two brings a rematch of the Southern Division title game as division titleist Bucknell University clashes with runner-up and No. 19-ranked Princeton University at 1:00 p.m., before the game three meeting at 2:30 p.m. of No. 10-ranked and Northern Division champion Hartwick College and the host Terrapins of Maryland.  Due to Southern Division third-place finisher Maryland being the host school, the Terrapins will wear dark caps in the game although Hartwick is seeded higher.

Day One will wrap-up at 4:00 p.m. as No. 15-ranked and Western Division runner-up Indiana University meets Northern Division runner-up Brown University.

The victors and defeated from Day One will then meet on Saturday, May 1 before the placement round on Sunday, May 2.

The Eastern Championship field is selected by a panel of coaches which examine the entirety of the season's results to determine the strength of teams at the conclusion of the season.  The Northern, Southern and Western Division champions and runner-up finishers earn automatic bids to the field, while two teams earn spots based as at-large selections.
