George Washington's Marissa Stamler Named April 19 Women's Varsity Southern Division Co-Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- George Washington University's Marissa Stamler (Sr., Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) totaled seven goals and three assists in three games, highlighted by a four-goal, five point effort against Princeton University, to earn a share of the April 19 Women's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week award.
Overall, the Colonials fell to the University of Maryland (16-7 L), No. 7-nationally ranked University of Michigan (12-6 L) and Princeton (9-7 L) last week to clinch the No. 4 seed for the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Championship this weekend at Princeton.
Playing in her final game at home in Smith Center Pool versus Princeton, she scored three of her four goals in the second half as the Colonials challenged the Tigers over the final 16-minutes in a two-goal defeat.
To date, she leads GW with 47 goals and 70 points this season. In 104 career games, Stamler is fourth in points (203), fifth in goals (135) and assists (68), and rates as the program's all-time leader with 23 field blocks.
